Urodynamics with NJCUC
|
Urodynamics is a series of tests we use to study the function of your bladder and urethral sphincter.
It helps us understand what your bladder’s sensory and motor nervous systems are doing while it fills with urine.
The goal of the study is to reproduce your symptoms so we can diagnosis your problem and “fine tune” your care.
The test is usually well tolerated and you can go about your normal daily routine afterwards.

Instructions for Urodynamics Test
1) Continue all of your usual medications and eat and drink as you normally would the day of your study.
|
|
2) Please DO NOT apply lotion or creams to the areas from your belly button to your knees.
3) Please arrive to the office with a “comfortably” full bladder. You will be asked to do an “uroflow study”.
This is just a simple voiding test.
You will be brought into a private room where you will be asked to urinate into a special commode.
4) Dr. Gellman will then place a small catheter into your bladder and a small catheter into your vagina (or rectum for males).
These catheters will measure and record pressures generated in the abdomen and bladder.
5) Sticky pads will be placed on your thigh and on the perineum. For your comfort, you may wish to trim any hair in those areas.
6) During the study, you will be asked questions and asked to perform simple tasks specific to your symptoms
(i.e. coughing, bearing down etc) in an effort to reproduce the symptoms you have.
7) After the study is completed, Dr. Gellman will go over the results with you and explain the recommended course of action.
You will be given an antibiotic after the study to prevent infection.
